Here you will find recent craft ideas

Each term I am planning to add a new theme of crafts each term so revisit. Do remember that the old crafts will be taken off so print them out and keep them!
The theme for this term is reuse junk!
You will note that most of the crafts are girly. I have used them at our girls' youth club with girls aged 7 to 13 years.

Tin Can Desk Tidy
I enjoyed this craft with Catherine one afternoon. If you are doing this with groups remember two things. 1. The Sharp Edges, you might want to clean them at home (dishwashers do save your fingers if you have one) and put the heavy duty tape on before you start. 2. It might take a long time to dry so have other activities ready, although a hair dryer can speed it up.
  Recycled Desk Tidies
Ever wanted to know what to do with old tins? Why not make these attractive desk tidies?

You will need:
An old tin (like baked beans or tomates)
Poster paints or emulsion tester pots
PVA Glue
Heavy duty tape (from DIY stores and avilable in a variety of colours
Small paper images that you like

What to do:
1. Wash the tin out so it is clean or dry. Ask an adult to help - SHARP EDGES! You can always take off the label and put it through the dishwasher.
2. Take some tape and ask an adult to fasten it over an sharp edges
3. Mix some paint in a colour of your choice with some PVA glue.
4. Paint the mixture on to the tin can, the glue should help it stick.
5. Put the tin somewhere to dry.
6. When the paint is dry cut out the images that you like.
7. Using PVA glue stick the images around your tin. Make sure you stick them down well and paint over them with the PVA.
8. The final step is to make sure the whole of the outside of the tin is covered in PVA Glue.
9. Leave to dry and it is ready to use as a desk tidy.

An alternative is to use it as a flower pot for mother's day. You could use pictures of cars and give it to Dad to keep nuts and bolts in. If your giving it as a present why not theme the pictures you use.

Snow Globes
This is a great Christmas / Winter Craft.

You will need:
An old jam or pickle jar with the lid
A glue gun or very strong glue
A small cake decoration (plastic)
Some plasticine
Glitter
Water

What to do:
1. Make sure that you have removed the label from the jar and cleaned it well.
2. When it is dry, take the lid from the jar and arrange any figures. You might want to use plasticine to raise them up.
3. When you are happy use the strong glue or a glue gun to set them in place.
4. Now fill the jar till it is 3/4 full of cold water.
5. Add any glitter.
6. Put glue around the neck of the jar and tighten the lid on.
7. Let the glue set and tip upside down. (Over a sink is a good idea). When you tilt it back you should have snow!

'TOP TIP' Test any jars before you use them!
You could do this with a twigs and blossem as a spring craft.

Window Blinds
This craft does take some more preperation than others. You need to remember to ask the girls to measure their bedroom window the week before.

What you need:
A piece of dowl or cane the width of the window plus 10 cm.
LOTS of string!
Plastic drinking straws.
Any old beeds that you have.

What to do:
1. Take the cane and tie a number of lenghts of sting to the it. The string needs to be as long as the window plue 5cm.
2. Cut up the straws into small sections about 5cm long.
3. Thread the straws on to the sting, mixing up colours as you wish.
4. You can put beads wherever you want but make sure you put a bead at the bottom.
5. Tie the string off at the end.
6. Do the same for all the lengths of sting.
7. To hang up at your window, take two cup hooks and fasten to the wall and rest the cane across.
