Games Zone

All we ever do is play football!

In Youth Work games often play an important part in the programme so this zone gives you some new ideas (and reminds you of some you forgot).

Like with many of the other zones this will be updated every term. So if you see some ideas you like make sure you write them down or print them off.

This term is team games to burn off enery!.

  Hit the Bottle:

You will need:
An old plastic 2l pop bottle, 3/4 filled with earth or sand.
Chalk or two chairs.
Two tennis balls.
A large space to play in with a flat floor.

How to set up:
At each end of your hall either place a chair or make a mark on the floor, this is where the throwers stand.
In the centre of the hall (equal distant from both ends) place the bottle on a mark.
Split the group in half.
The two teams sit on each side of the hall.
Number each of the members of the team i.e. 1 to 10 if you have 20 in total.

How to play:
The leader calls a number say 5.
The two players who are number 5 race to their ends of the hall and pick up a ball.
They must stand behind their line and throw it at the bottle in order to knock it over.
The players can use any ball but must stand behind the line to throw it.
Award a point to the team whoes player knocks the bottle over first.
Re-set the bottle and call another number.

BB Girls try to hit the bottle!
  The Tray Game:

You will need:
Two old trays.
Two sticks made from rolled up newspaper.

How to set up:
Split the group into two teams.
The teams stand facing each other down two sides of the playing area.
In the middle of the space place the trays and newspaper sticks.
Each team numbers its self say 1 - 10.

How to play:
The leader calls a number say 6.
The players with that number race to the middle and grab a stick and tray.
They must hold the tray in one hand underneath like a waiter.
In the other hand they must hold the stick.
The winner is the first person to knock the tray out of the other players hand.
Whoevers tray hits the floor first is the loser.
The players put the trays and sticks back and the leader calls another number.

Can she hold the tray any longer?
  Newspaper in a bucket:

You will need:
A rolled up stick of newspaper.
A bucket.
A circle of chairs.

How to set up:
The players sit on the chairs in a circle. There should be one player without a chair
Place the newspaper stick in the bucket in the centre of the circle.
The chairs and players should be facing inwards.

How to play:
The player without a chair holds the newspaper stick.
They must hit someone on the head and put the stick into the bucket and sit down on that persons chair.
If you are hit on the head you must stand up, get the newspaper out of the bucket and hit the person back on the head before they steel your chair.
The aim is not to be the player without the chair.

Sorry we couldn't think of a better name for the game!
